The sessions that culminated in Night Physics, as it has come to be titled, began in late 2012. "Night Drive" was the first track to be cut, and due to the satisfaction that Nick and Cole both felt upon the song's completion, the duo decided to continue recording together until a collection of songs had been compiled that accurately told their collaborative story. Much like the progression of the songs on the record itself, changes in sound and approach happened within the approximately 15-month-long studio venture. Thus, what you hear at the beginning of the record may not be quite the same as what you hear at the end. Nevertheless, a line runs through the album that ties all of the songs together.
